Health & Fitness PH | Malaysia Launches “Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026” — A Game-Changer for Global Healthcare Travelers
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Malaysia is set to take center stage in global health tourism with the official launch of the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026 (MYMT 2026), spearheaded by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC). The event was held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) and was graced by Malaysia’s Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, who introduced the campaign’s new branding and slogan: “Healing Meets Hospitality.”
A New Era for Medical Tourism in Asia
With MYMT 2026, Malaysia is doubling down on its reputation as one of Asia’s most trusted healthcare destinations. The campaign aims to attract more international patients and health-conscious travelers by showcasing the country’s state-of-the-art hospitals, world-class specialists, and patient-centered care that blends medical excellence with genuine Malaysian hospitality.
Whether it’s advanced heart surgery, fertility treatment, cancer therapy, or full-body wellness retreats, Malaysia offers affordable yet high-quality healthcare options that appeal to patients from neighboring ASEAN countries, the Middle East, Europe, and beyond.
Celebrity Endorsement and Trusted Care
To further elevate the campaign, Malaysian icon Dato’ Seri Siti Nurhaliza was introduced as the official ambassador for MYMT 2026. Her involvement aims to give a relatable and trusted voice to Malaysia’s global healthcare mission.
In 2024 alone, Malaysia received over 1.6 million healthcare travelers, earning RM2.72 billion in revenue—an impressive 21% growth from the previous year. With MYMT 2026, the country is eyeing RM12 billion in healthcare travel revenue by 2030, driven by innovation and inclusive wellness services.
Recognizing Excellence in Medical Facilities
The launch also highlighted the Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital (FMTH) initiative, which honors Malaysia’s top-tier hospitals for their clinical expertise, cutting-edge technology, and international patient experience. Finalists include:
- Institut Jantung Negara (National Heart Institute)
- Island Hospital Penang
- Mahkota Medical Centre
- Subang Jaya Medical Centre
These institutions are in the final stages of assessment, with the FMTH winner to be announced in December 2025.
A Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Dzulkefly emphasized Malaysia’s move towards integrative healthcare, combining modern medicine, Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM), and preventive wellness solutions.
“We’re not just offering treatment; we’re curating healing journeys. Malaysia’s healthcare vision is rooted in compassion, quality, and innovation,” he said.
