“It’s been a year since I started launching Zero and I can’t believe where I am now compared to then.”
– Amy Shah
“I’ve always had this passion, but I couldn’t express it”
When Amy was studying medicine, she was often ill. She went to one doctor after another, trying to figure out what was wrong. They all said to her: “You are fine. You’re just stressed.”
She knew they were missing something, so she did her own research. Eventually, she decided to overhaul her diet and within months she was feeling better.
The whole experience made her want to help others go from tired and moody to energetic and happy.
“I had an aha moment – I was able to help people with the same problem because they weren’t getting help from their doctors.”
Amy had always been passionate about nutrition (that’s why she became a doctor in the first place), so she was excited to share what she learned with others. The problem was that no one would listen.
While western medicine focuses on helping you once you’re sick, Amy wanted to prevent people from getting sick in the first place. But when she spoke to her patients, they wanted pills, not advice on what to eat. She felt compelled to keep what she had learned to herself.
“I considered this my passion or side interest and did not pursue it in my medical practice.”
“I was afraid they would call me a quack”
Years later, Amy realized she could share what she had learned with the world by writing a guest post on a popular blog, MindBodyGreen.
“I contributed an article. When they released it, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I can start reaching out and influencing people and doing something bigger than I ever thought possible!’”
Amy’s first post on MindBodyGreen.comAmy saw this as a way to finally share her passion with the world. But there was still a massive barrier in their way.
As a doctor, she had a reputation to protect. If she were linked to a “scam blog” or a “shoddy online business,” she would be financially ruined and her career destroyed.
“I was afraid that my colleagues would judge me. That they would say, “Oh, she’s that quack doctor, she believes in essential oils to treat cancer.” It was a big risk for me to publish this.”
“I didn’t have the time or energy to do it myself”
With no commercial background and a demanding career, Amy knew she would need guidance. So she joined a popular program that teaches people how to turn their blog into a profitable business.
Unfortunately it didn’t help.
“I felt really lost. The material was vague and general and I didn’t want to post anything in the Facebook group because I felt I had nothing in common with the people there. It was a waste.”
So Amy turned to another source for help. She joined a Zero-led mastermind group to start graduate Selena Soo.
When she shared with Selena her goal — to educate people about how eating right can help them avoid illness and disease — Selena suggested creating an online course and recommended joining Zero to Launch.
“There were so many people, including Selena, who told me Zero to Launch was a great way to create a course. They said it would be a great base to start from as I know nothing about the internet business world.”
“I needed to know not to waste my time”
When Zero to Launch opened, Amy took Selena’s advice and joined.
She quickly found that it was much more detailed than the other course. Zero to Launch took it step by step, giving her specific benchmarks to hit before moving on to the next step. She found this incredibly helpful.
“I needed some kind of structure to know I was on the right track and wasn’t wasting time. So I loved how specific Ramit was in achieving benchmark measures.”
But it wasn’t just the information and structure that she loved. What really made the difference was the support she received from the community.
“One of the best things about the Zero to Launch community is that we really got to know each other.”
“I knew someone in the group was going to come out with a class two weeks before me, so I called her to ask her a few questions. She was so warm and friendly and told me everything that went right and wrong so I could prepare for it a few weeks later. That was priceless.”

“My turnover doubles with every start”
In October 2015, 6 months after joining, Amy launched her first online course.
“My listeners told me they really wanted to know about gut and hormonal health. So I built my course around that.”
And she offered two versions of it: The lower version sold for $600. The higher-tier version, which included one-on-one coaching — something her reader specifically requested — sold for $1,500.
Her first launch brought in more than $10,000.
Since then, Amy’s has used zero-to-launch techniques to grow her email list to more than 12,000 subscribers – and sales have skyrocketed.
“Since my first launch, my sales have doubled every time I launch a course or product.”
Amy has made more than $30,000 from her online business in less than a year
Amy is in the dr. Oz Show “Because of the success of that first course, a lot of people approached me to work with them: I’ve partnered with MindBodyGreen to create a 7 day gut reboot course. And I have books and other courses and collaborative projects in the works.”
“I can’t believe where I am now”
Although she initially feared that going online would tarnish her reputation, it has actually helped Amy’s career soar.
“It’s been a year since I started Zero and I can’t believe where I am now compared to where I was then.”
She’s become so well known that her peers, who teased her about her “little blog,” fear she might dump her.
“They say things like, ‘Are you leaving our office? This is getting bigger, will it be your main thing now?’”
Even better, thanks to her online business, Amy is finally making the impact she’s dreamed of since she started medical school.
“People come to me all the time with problems that Western medicine cannot solve. I help thousands, if not millions, of people take control of their health and prevent disease and the heartbreak that comes with it. I’m doing something that will change her life forever.”

Sell in a way that builds your reputation
Amy was afraid that doing business online would damage her reputation because there was so much “scam” online marketing. She didn’t want to be associated with that.
But through our course, Amy learned how to sell with integrity and confidence. Without this change in mindset, she might never have released her first product, and all the success that followed would never have happened.
