These are some of the tasks taking place at LG Electronics’ new Data Factory in Seoul, where the company is bringing together decades of manufacturing and logistics know-how with NVIDIA’s robotics technologies to train and continuously improve robots.

Currently under construction at LG’s Yangjae R&D Campus, the Data Factory is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2026. Spanning four floors—one basement level and three above ground—with a total floor area of 10,000 square meters, the facility is expected to house several hundred robots by year-end.

LG has already deployed its self-developed, field-proven LG CLOiD home robots at scale to generate, collect and learn from data.

Where robots learn by doing

Rather than simply serving as a testing laboratory, the Data Factory provides dedicated environments where robots can repeatedly practice tasks while LG generates, validates and refines the resulting data.

In a replicated home environment, LG CLOiD learns and repeats cleaning tasks. In another space modeled on LG’s washing machine plant in Tennessee, CLOiD units practice moving, stacking and assembling a variety of parts.

Robots are also being deployed in LG CNS’s logistics automation solutions, while a separate space is being used by LG Innotek to train robotic hands.

The data collected from these environments will be linked with NVIDIA’s robotics stack, where it can be augmented and synthesized into high-quality data for robot learning.

For LG, this creates what it calls a “data flywheel”: a cycle in which high-quality data is repeatedly secured and then used to train and continuously improve robots.

LG is combining this process with detailed data gathered over decades from its manufacturing and logistics operations. The Data Factory will also serve as a base for expanding, synthesizing and amplifying robot-learning data gathered from LG manufacturing and logistics sites and home appliances worldwide.

Bringing NVIDIA’s robotics technologies into the picture

The facility incorporates NVIDIA’s physical AI technologies, including NVIDIA Omniverse libraries, NVIDIA Cosmos open world models and the open NVIDIA Isaac robotics development platform, which are used from data to deployment.

By the end of 2026, LG expects training data collected directly at the Data Factory, together with data synthetically generated and augmented using NVIDIA Cosmos open world models, to total 100,000 hours—equivalent to roughly 12 years of data.

LG plans to use this data to advance its Robot Foundation Model (RFM), which underpins the performance of humanoid robots.

The collaboration follows an agreement signed just days earlier. LG Group and NVIDIA signed a memorandum of understanding for strategic collaboration on future business initiatives at NVIDIA’s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, on August 13 local time.

Four days later, senior executives from LG Electronics and other LG Group affiliates met with NVIDIA officials at LG’s Data Factory to review the collaboration and discuss ways to generate further synergies. The quick follow-up reflects the companies’ intention to solidify their strategic cooperation and accelerate commercialization of the robotics business.

From industrial robots to robots for the home

The Data Factory comes as LG makes robotics a bigger part of its business.

LG has designated 2026 as the starting point of its robotics business push. Last month, it established a dedicated Robotics Business Center that reports directly to the CEO and oversees the companywide robotics business, with a mandate to improve execution and efficiency.

The company has already established a presence in industrial and commercial robotics and plans to expand into home robotics.

LG is bringing together its manufacturing expertise, experience developing core robotic components such as actuators, and the large-scale robot-learning data managed through its Data Factory as it works toward becoming a comprehensive robotics solutions provider with both hardware and software capabilities.

For Roberto “Bobby” Claudio, both have become part of a retail journey spanning decades.

At the 2026 Outstanding Filipino Retailers (OFR) Awards, Claudio was honored with the PRA President’s Award as a Pillar of Philippine Retail Leadership, alongside Ma. Alegria “Bing” Limjoco. The recognition celebrates decades of service and lasting contributions to the growth of Philippine retail.

It is a distinction that reflects not simply longevity, but a career that connects entrepreneurship, industry leadership, advocacy, and service.

From a Small Greenhills Store to a Philippine Retail Institution

Claudio’s entrepreneurial story began modestly.

In 1978, he left his job at a multinational company and opened a small toy store in Greenhills Shopping Center with the help of his brothers. Called Toby’s Forms and Shapes, the business was named after his eldest son.

The original concept did not last long.

Instead of holding on to something that was not working, Claudio recognized another opportunity and transformed the business into a sporting goods store—a decision that would eventually help reshape sports retail in the Philippines.

That willingness to adapt would become an enduring lesson from his career.

Today, Toby’s Sports has grown from that small Greenhills shop into a major multi-brand sports retailer carrying more than 100,000 items from over 160 brands, according to the company’s website.

But Claudio’s influence would eventually extend far beyond the company he helped build.

Helping Build the Organization Behind Philippine Retail

One of the most significant aspects of Claudio’s legacy is his long association with the Philippine Retailers Association.

PRA identifies Claudio as one of its founding members, making his connection to the organization part of a much longer story than his recent leadership positions.

He was elected PRA President for the 2023-2025 term, during which the association pursued initiatives involving fair competition, intellectual property rights, sustainability, tourism, digital transformation and people development.

Among the initiatives highlighted during his leadership were support for policies intended to create a more level playing field between traditional and online retailers, stronger cooperation with organizations concerned with intellectual property and competition, participation in the United Nations Global Compact, support for tourism-related retail initiatives, and programs addressing digital transformation and skills development.

His contribution to association leadership was recognized beyond the retail community in 2024, when the Philippine Council of Associations and Association Executives named him Outstanding Association Board Member of the Year at its ANG SUSI Awards.

When PRA elected its new officers for 2025-2027, Golden ABC’s Alice Liu succeeded Claudio as President, while Claudio assumed the position of Chairman of the PRA Board—continuing his involvement in guiding the organization.

Leadership Through Collaboration

Claudio’s record at PRA also illustrates an important aspect of modern retail leadership: building relationships beyond one’s own company.

During his presidency, PRA strengthened collaborations touching areas ranging from intellectual property and digital commerce to sustainability and tourism. One example was the renewal of PRA’s agreement with FILSCAP, which provided benefits to qualified PRA members while supporting a continuing relationship between retail and the creative sector.

This collaborative approach matters because retail has become increasingly interconnected.

Retailers today must navigate technology, e-commerce, regulation, sustainability, intellectual property, changing consumer behavior and workforce transformation simultaneously.

No single retailer can address all those challenges alone.

Industry associations therefore become more important—not merely as networking organizations, but as platforms where businesses can find a collective voice.

Claudio’s years of involvement with PRA helped reinforce that principle.

A Legacy That Also Looks to the Next Generation

There is another dimension to Claudio’s story that extends beyond commerce.

Through the Toby’s Youth Sports Foundation, the organization has supported programs using sports as a vehicle for youth development and community engagement. The foundation has worked with various organizations and communities, while its long-running Sports for Hope initiative was recognized in 2015 as a leading sports corporate social responsibility program.

That commitment provides another perspective on Claudio’s legacy.

Retail leadership can be about growing stores, increasing market share and building brands. But its broader value emerges when business becomes a platform for contributing to communities and creating opportunities for others.

What the 2026 PRA President’s Award Represents

The Pillar of Philippine Retail Leadership recognition at the 2026 OFR Awards therefore carries particular meaning.

Claudio’s story stretches from the entrepreneurial decision to transform a small Greenhills toy store in 1978 into what would become Toby’s Sports, to helping lead an organization representing the interests and aspirations of the country’s retail community.

Across that journey runs a consistent thread: adapt, collaborate, and keep building.

It is also a story that mirrors Philippine retail itself.

The industry Claudio entered in the late 1970s bears little resemblance to today’s marketplace of e-commerce, omnichannel shopping, artificial intelligence, data-driven operations and rapidly evolving consumer expectations.

Yet the fundamentals that allowed businesses to endure remain recognizable: understanding customers, responding to change, building relationships and having the courage to reinvent when circumstances demand it.

That may ultimately explain why a legacy award matters.

It does not simply recognize what a leader accomplished in the past.

It recognizes what that person’s work made possible for those who came after.

The meeting brought together scientists, clinicians, dengue experts, local leaders and stakeholders from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and other partner countries to support a regional platform for on-going dialogue, knowledge exchange, and policy coordination. The initiative was designed to connect advocacy groups, public health professionals, researchers, healthcare stakeholders, and funding partners to advance dengue prevention and response across Asia. It also shares best practices, address emerging challenges, and strengthen a united regional voice.

A key milestone of the gathering was the MOU announcement among the founding regional partners: Asia Dengue Voice G Action Group (ADVA), Dengue Prevention Advocacy Malaysia (DPAM), Empowering Networks to Defeat Dengue (E.N.D. Dengue Coalition, Philippines), Koalisi Bersama Lawan Dengue (Joint Coalition Against Dengue – KOBAR, Indonesia), the Singapore Dengue Alliance, and the International Society for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ISNTD)¹. The announcement reflects a shared commitment to deepen collaboration across Southeast Asia and build stronger regional cooperation on dengue prevention, control and advocacy.

Speakers emphasized the importance of learning from each country’s strengths and approaches. Program examples included multi-stakeholder communications and engagement in the Philippines involving media, academe, medical societies, and other partners; policy engagement in Malaysia and Indonesia; and technology-enabled awareness campaigns in Singapore. These country experiences underscored the value of regional cooperation in strengthening advocacy, prevention, and response efforts.

Philippine expertise was especially visible throughout the program. Dr. Rose Capeding served as moderator for “Symposium 7: Emerging challenges in dengue management,” guiding discussion on some of the most pressing clinical and scientific issues in dengue care. Dr.

Capeding said the session reflected the urgent need to strengthen collaboration across countries and disciplines to improve dengue outcomes. She added that bringing together

The session highlighted the need for better understanding of dengue severity, patient burden, and real-time clinical monitoring, reinforcing the importance of collaboration across research and healthcare networks in the region.

In another featured program, Dr. Lulu Bravo moderated “ADVA Educational Symposium 1: Innovations for Aedes-borne disease control,” supported by Bavarian Nordic and the World Mosquito Program. The symposium, showcased major advances in vector control and disease prevention, with presentations by:

• Jue Tao Lim — Global evidence base for vector control, NTU, Singapore
• Bekti Andari — Updates from World Mosquito Program
• Tsin Wen Yeo — Updates on Chikungunya, NTU, Singapore

This session emphasized the growing importance of evidence-based vector control strategies, global implementation updates, and continued attention to chikungunya as a major Aedes-borne disease of concern.

Organizers said the platform is intended to support policy dialogue, prevention and control efforts, and coordinated planning among public health, research, healthcare, and funding partners. As cancer remains the country’s second leading cause of death, health authorities are accelerating efforts aligned with the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act and the National Integrated Cancer Control Act (NICCA)—two landmark policies designed to improve access to affordable and quality cancer care across the Philippines.

The initiative supports the administration’s broader healthcare agenda of decentralizing medical services and strengthening grassroots healthcare delivery systems.

Community-Level Healthcare Takes Center Stage

In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve equitable healthcare access nationwide, government agencies are prioritizing early cancer detection and preventive care through local government-led programs and expanded rural health services.

During the recent Kapihan sa PIA forum held at SM City Butuan on April 30, health officials highlighted ongoing interventions focused on bringing cancer screening and awareness programs closer to communities through strengthened primary healthcare networks.

Romelyn Esther Torralba-Santos, Nurse V of the Department of Health–Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Caraga, emphasized the importance of accessible primary care services in lowering cancer-related mortality rates, particularly through cervical and breast cancer screening programs.

“Cancer control begins with early screening. We encourage everyone to avail of the free and accessible services in your local health facilities,” Santos said.

Nationwide Screening Expansion Underway

The government’s cervical cancer screening initiative, launched nationwide in 2024, is now being implemented across local government units (LGUs), significantly expanding access to preventive healthcare services through rural health units (RHUs) and community-based facilities.

Health authorities say the expansion is especially critical in regions facing shortages of cancer specialists, where preventive care and early detection serve as the most effective frontline defense against cancer-related complications.

Santos noted that decentralizing healthcare services remains vital in ensuring broader public participation in preventive health programs.

“We should not wait until cancer symptoms become severe before seeking treatment. Early consultation and screening can make a significant difference in outcomes,” she added.

Caraga Emerges as National Leader in Cancer Screening Coverage

The Caraga region has reportedly achieved the highest cancer screening coverage rates in the Philippines from 2024 to 2025, reflecting strong collaboration among local governments, healthcare agencies, and media organizations in promoting public awareness campaigns.

Preventive services—including cancer screening—are now increasingly accessible in barangays and geographically isolated communities, helping improve healthcare reach beyond major urban centers.

Health officials continue to encourage Filipinos to maximize free screening services available through public healthcare facilities, stressing that early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve treatment outcomes and survival rates.

Prevention, Awareness, and Lifestyle Interventions

Beyond screening initiatives, the Department of Health is also intensifying public education campaigns centered on:

• Healthy lifestyle practices
• Cancer prevention awareness
• Regular medical consultations

Santos emphasized that primary prevention and health education remain essential components of the country’s long-term cancer control strategy.

She also encouraged individuals experiencing possible cancer symptoms to seek immediate medical consultation, underscoring the importance of timely diagnosis and intervention.

Cancer Assistance Fund Supports Financial Accessibility

To further strengthen healthcare accessibility, the government has also expanded financial assistance mechanisms for cancer patients.

In the Caraga region, the Cancer Assistance Fund is now accessible through D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital, offering financial support for eligible patients undergoing cancer treatment and diagnostic procedures.

The initiative forms part of the national government’s broader commitment to improving healthcare affordability and reducing barriers to treatment for Filipino patients.

Healthcare Outlook: Preventive Care as Long-Term Investment

The government’s intensified focus on preventive healthcare and community-level screening reflects a growing recognition that early detection programs are not only critical public health interventions but also long-term investments in national productivity and healthcare sustainability.
