Boy Abunda on why he joined GMA and left ABS-CBN
That’s why Boy Abunda decided to make a change.
BOY ABUNDA – Veteran talk show host Boy Abunda has signed a new deal with GMA Network, and here’s what he had to say about it.
Known as the “King of Talk,” Boy Abunda began his career on the GMA talk show Show & Tell in 1994 and Startalk in 1995. In 1999 he left the Kapuso network and switched to ABS-CBN. From 1999 to 2015 he hosted the legendary talk show The Buzz.
However, when ABS-CBN lost their bid for a new franchise, people missed his TV interviews. He switched to hosting interviews on his own YouTube channel, speaking to actors, musicians, athletes and politicians.
And now, a few days after talk of his move to GMA circulated online, that story has been confirmed. He finally signed a new deal with GMA on October 15, where he was wholeheartedly welcomed by the network.
“Welcome home Kapuso!” GMA said in the caption of one of their posts.
In a report by GMA, Abunda emphasized that the reason for his transfer is that he really wanted to get back to doing what he loves, which is hosting. Accordingly, a long conversation ensued before everything found its place.
“Bakit ako narito? Dahil nawalan ako ng tahanan. Nawalan ako ng show at sabi ko nga kanina, I am greeted by GMA-7 from Buong Puso,” he said.
He’s back to GMA because he wants to get back to TV, do shows, do the job he loves and do the work he knows.
“I’m back because gusto kong makabalik sa telebisyon, gusto kong gumawa ng mga palabas, gusto kong gumawa ng trabaho na alam ko gawin and trabaho na mahal ko. That’s why I’m back.”
Before leaving his old company, he made it clear that he never went with anyone without bad blood. He said his goodbyes formally and returned to GMA with nothing bad to look back on with his former company.
