LOS ANGELES (Health & Fitness Journal) – Pop superstar Taylor Swift won the most prestigious honor at the American Music Awards on Sunday when she was named Artist of the Year at the world’s largest fan-voted ceremony.
The “Anti-Hero” singer thanked voters for their support after releasing four original albums and two re-recordings in the past three years.
“I can’t express how incredible it is for me that I’m still doing this and that you still care,” she said onstage at the awards show in Los Angeles.
Previously, Swift had won the trophy for Favorite Pop Album with her re-recording of her 2012 album Red. The 32-year-old singer has made new versions of albums from her past after a falling out with her former record label.
“I can’t tell you how much my newly recorded albums mean to me, but I never expected or assumed they would mean anything to you,” she said.
Swift didn’t mention last week’s controversy over Ticketmaster’s sales for her upcoming tour, which was riddled with glitches and prompted the company to apologize to her.
In the Artist of the Year category, Swift triumphed over impressive names like Beyonce, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, Drake, Adele and Bad Bunny.
Singer Pink opened the awards ceremony dancing and singing on roller skates to her upbeat song “Never Gonna Not Dance Again”.
Comedian and presenter Wayne Brady rapped in his monologue. “No one gets slapped tonight,” Brady joked, referring to Will Smith’s infamous attack on Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Dove Cameron, a former Disney Channel actress who hit Billboard earlier this year with pop single “Boyfriend,” scooped the night’s first trophy by winning Best New Artist.
Machine Gun Kelly, who wears a purple suit with long silver spikes, was named favorite rock artist.
